The Wonder Woman Effect
The success of “Wonder Woman” continues to make major waves in Hollywood, as anyone who follows the industry is aware.
A recent article in my favorite showbiz rag, The Hollywood Reporter:
'Wonder Woman' Director Patty Jenkins Not Signed for Sequel
Oops.
“Sources say Warner Bros. will soon begin negotiations with Jenkins, who will have major leverage thanks to the movie's historic opening weekend.”
Yay!
“The studio intends to begin negotiations with Jenkins shortly (although the exact timing is unclear), and sources say the filmmaker and her reps at CAA, Anonymous Content and Jackoway Tyerman will enjoy enormous leverage … Jenkins could not only return to the director's chair on ‘Wonder Woman 2’ but also could ink a more expansive deal that would allow her to work with DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns on a script treatment for that movie and possibly others as well.”
Just like a guy would! (Had a major studio dropped the ball by underestimating his capabilities.) Wow!
So. Will there be a day when we can stop marveling at the fact that a woman did something great and that Hollywood actually noticed? Will woman-helmed movies of ALL sorts someday be just the way things are?
I say yes. The glass is already half full and now all we need is another round. Set 'em up, Joe.
